What’s new in Customer Service?
CLWSC now offers a quarterly newsletter to inform our customers of changes and progress at CLWSC. Customers can subscribe online at www.clwsc.com.
Due to severe drought conditions, we have been including water conservation tips on each water bill in order to help our customers both save water and lower their monthly bills.
We are currently researching additional alternative ways for customer’s to pay their bills that will be both convenient and customer friendly.
What’s new in Operations?
Thank goodness for the recent rains. Although we have increased our groundwater production capabilities over the past few months we remain watchful of the low levels in Canyon Lake. You may recall the note on our February bills reminding everyone of the continued drought and the prospect of reduced pumping in accordance with GBRA’s Drought Contingency Plan. Should the Lake level reach 895’ above mean sea level (msl) we will be asking everyone to reduce consumption by 5% in accordance with the Drought Contingency Plan.
We have made recent improvements to the Rolling Hills and Cypress on the Guadalupe wells. We have seen a net increase in well production capacity from 165 gallon per minute (gpm) to 385 gpm. These two projects offset surface water production from both the Park Shores and Triple Peak plants. The projects also include upgrades to existing buildings and booster pumps.
Other water supply improvements include finalizing the 2nd well in Vintage Oaks. The second Vintage Oaks well has a production capacity of 200 gpm and will provide groundwater to customers in Vintage Oaks, Waggener Ranch, and the Triple Peak service area. We are also developing plans for improvements to our raw water intake at Triple Peak and installation of a third raw water pump at our Park Shores Plant.
Customers in the Mount Lookout subdivision are seeing green. We’ve completed construction of a new perimeter fence that has a green plastic coating at our Spitz Kegal facility. We believe the green plastic coating is more attractive and allows our fencing to blend into the environment. Other improvements at the site will include the construction of a new pump room, pressure tank, and disinfection equipment.
What’s new in Engineering?
In the first quarter of 2009 we completed several projects that will improve the quality, pressure, and flow throughout or service area.
We completed the final segment of our main line that extends from Startzville all the way to Vintage Oaks Subdivision. This final segment ran parallel to FM 3159 starting at the Startzville Elementary School and finished at the entrance to what will someday be Valley View Subdivision.
We acquired the CCN for the City of Bulverde and are now the city’s water service franchisee. We will begin work in the next few weeks on a waterline in this area that will extend water service to the new elementary school at the corner of Ammann Road and Bulverde Road. When complete, we will have a new 16” water line that will extend from Bobcat Road to Ammann Road. We are also working on our Master Planning in this new area to support future development throughout the area. We have received several requests for service from potential developers in this area.
Canyon Lake Fire Station 1 and 2 now have water service provided to them. This provides a readily available and reliable water source for the fire station to use to fill their fire trucks and remain prepared to react to an emergency in the local area.
We completed the removal and replacement of a 4" line along Glenn Drive in the Astro Hills Subdivision. We identified the need for this replacement as part of our Capital Projects budget this year due to the number of water leaks and line breaks that have occurred over the past several years.
We are nearing completion of a new 12" water line that will connect wells within the Summit Estates at Fischer Subdivision with the rest of our system coming from the north side of Canyon Lake. The line runs across FM 32 and eventually connects to an existing line we own along FM 484. This project will improve service to Rancho Del Lago West Subdivision and Rocky Creek Subdivision as well as provide an additional water source to our overall system.
CLWSC is committed to providing excellent customer service in the delivery of reliable, high-quality water at a reasonable cost while promoting public health, natural environment and the economic vitality of the community.
